1987-88 World Cup - Group A

†INDIA v ZIMBABWE

At Ahmedabad, October 26. India won by seven wickets. Toss: India. With run-rate becoming such an essential factor in this group, India's top-order batting was decidedly dilatory, even taking into account the slow pitch and the distraction of unruly, stone-throwing spectators. Gavaskar took 114 balls over his 50, and although Kapil Dev, promoting himself to No. 5 and hitting three sixes, scored 41 in 25 balls to win the match in the 42nd over, he did not salvage the situation entirely. India's run-rate was now 5.18 to Australia's 5.20. For Zimbabwe, Arnott, coming in when Shah was run out in the second over, batted 43 overs for his 60.

Man of the Match: Kapil Dev.
