1987-88 World Cup - Group A

†NEW ZEALAND v ZIMBABWE

At Calcutta, October 23. New Zealand won by four wickets. Toss: New Zealand. When Martin Crowe, having hit eight fours in 58 from 58 balls, was fourth out at 125, New Zealand looked in some difficulty. However, they were seen to their second win of the tournament by his older brother, Jeff, the captain, whose sterling 88 not out, from 105 balls, included eight fours also. Zimbabwe again owed much to Houghton and Pycroft. Arnott and Shah were sound, but slow, and when Pycroft replaced Shah at 121 for three, only fifteen overs remained. He played the supporting role as Houghton carved 50 from 58 balls, then expanded his own repertoire of hitting to reach his half-century before the innings closed.

Man of the Match: J. J. Crowe.
