†INDIA v ZIMBABWE

At Bombay, October 17. India won by eight wickets. Toss: Zimbabwe. India, having bowled out Zimbabwe for 135 well within the allocation of overs, wasted no time in achieving victory, conscious of the importance of a good run-rate should it be the deciding factor at the end of the group matches. Gavaskar (51 balls) scored his first 36 runs from his nine boundaries; Vengsarkar picked off the runs with a deadly intent. Zimbabwe's decision to bat first on a dewy morning rebounded as Prabhakar, swinging the ball disconcertingly, took four wickets in seventeen balls. Pycroft, with 61 from 102 balls, saw that Zimbabwe at least reached three figures.

Man of the Match: M. Prabhakar.
