World Series Cup - First Final Match

†AUSTRALIA v INDIA 1985-86

At Sydney, February 5 (day/night). Australia won by 11 runs. Excellent bowling, especially by Davis and Matthews, was Australia's greatest asset in a close rain-affected contest. The course of the match was also influenced by Gavaskar's dropping a slip chance in the first over. This not only reprieved Boon; it also damaged Gavaskar's finger, so preventing him from opening the Indian innings. Australia, put in, were 69 without loss when the ground was struck by a storm and it was a wonder that play restarted. Wickets fell rapidly, but Jones made an invaluable 30 not out. When India batted, Davis not only took two early wickets but also restricted the scoring, and the Indian rally, when it came, was cut short by Matthews.

Attendance: 26,559.
