†AUSTRALIA v NEW ZEALAND 1985-86

At Sydney, January 29 (day/night). Australia won by 99 runs. Australia elected to bat first and after a strong start were 123 for one at 30 overs. Thereafter the batting lost some momentum, although Jones hit 53 from 58 balls. New Zealand persisted, and failed again, with Bracewell as an opener, and they never recovered from the dismissal of Martin Crowe in the fifth over. Wright existed for 65 balls, but Hadlee apart (30 from 37 balls), the New Zealand batsmen could not attack quickly enough against accurate Australian bowling. Reid swept away the tail with only the second hat-trick in one-day international matches.

Man of the Match: D. C. Boon. Attendance: 26,283.
