†AUSTRALIA v INDIA 1985-86

At Adelaide, January 26. Australia won by 36 runs. On the evidence of the video camera, India had some reason to feel aggrieved when Waugh, whose dashing 81 so heavily tipped the scales, was not adjudged run out when 7. On the other hand the Indians had only themselves to blame when they let him off 4 runs later. Waugh, pulling and driving with great authority, hit two 6s and four 4s. India, who elected to bat second, were 75 for four in reply in the twentieth over but began to challenge as Gavaskar and Shastri added 97 from seventeen overs. Kapil Dev and Chetan Sharma put India ahead of the clock, but their dismissal to consecutive balls from Reid snuffed out Indian hopes. As a result of the victory Australia qualified for the finals.

Man of the Match: B. A. Reid. Attendance: 28,236.
