First One-day International

†SRI LANKA v INDIA 1985-86

At Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, August 25. India won by two wickets. Four big innings marked the first-ever one-day international between Sri Lanka and India in Sri Lanka, the most decisive being Vengsarkar's 89 off 66 balls. This enabled India to keep pace with an asking-rate which had climbed above 6 an over, and victory was achieved in the final over. Shastri had anchored the Indian reply with a steady 67. The Sri Lankan innings, which had been drifting against a well-directed seam attack, was revived splendidly in a 110-run stand between Dias and Ranatunga.

Man of the Match: R. L. Dias.
