†NEW ZEALAND v WEST INDIES 1984-85

At Sydney, March 9. West Indies won by six wickets. Lloyd having returned home, Richards launched his career as West Indies' captain by leading them to an easy victory. After being put in, New Zealand could make little progress against the West Indian bowling and fielding on a slow pitch and turgid outfield. When West Indies batted Hadlee removed Haynes and Richardson in his first six overs, and Payne, getting a rare opportunity, and Logie had to take their time; but Richards made runs at will. West Indies won £8,500 and New Zealand £4,250.
