†NEW ZEALAND v PAKISTAN 1984-85

At Christchurch, February 6. New Zealand won by 13 runs. On a splendid batting pitch, Wright and Reid scored 92 in 67 minutes, but the promise of a really substantial score was not fulfilled as Pakistan's bowling and fielding became much more determined. Pakistan lost three wickets quickly before Miandad and Zaheer added 83 in an hour. Although their sixth wicket fell at 129, Ramiz then drove strongly and sprinted furiously, an enthusiastic approach which brought about a sharp decline in New Zealand's performance. He scored 75 from as many deliveries and added 108 with Dalpat. But his spirited effort did not last quite long enough: 26 were needed from the last three overs and 15 from the last, in which Hadlee took three wickets with his first four balls.

Man of the Match: J. F. Reid.
