†INDIA v ENGLAND 1984-85

At Bangalore, January 20. England won by three wickets. India ran into one of England's best displays of fielding and did well to reach 205 for six off 46 overs after losing the toss. Gavaskar and Srikkanth overcame early problems on a slightly damp pitch to score 70 in nineteen overs, but Marks set India back and only the wristy power of Azharuddin saw them past 200. England made trouble for themselves when Gatting was run out, but Fowler and Gower, in a stand of 70 (thirteen overs), and then Lamb, who made the winning hit with an over in hand, swung the game round. Bottles thrown on the ground by sections of a capacity crowd caused a delay of twenty minutes five overs from the end, Gavaskar leading India off the field in protest.

Man of the Match: A. J. Lamb.
