†AUSTRALIA v PAKISTAN 1983-84

At Melbourne, January 21. Australia won by 43 runs. Pakistan's batsmen wilted just when they were expected to bloom. Having contained Australia to 209 for eight, they collapsed inexplicably. Wessels was used by Australia for the first time in an all-round capacity in this game: he bowled seven economical overs, a development which prompted Hughes to use his slow-medium cutters for the remainder of the competition.

Man of the Match: K. C. Wessels. Attendance: 24,273.
