SRI LANKA v NEW ZEALAND 1983-84

At P. Saravanamuttu Oval, Colombo, April 1. New Zealand won by 86 runs. Cairns elevated a lack-lustre match and lifted New Zealand to victory in the one-day series with some spectacular hitting towards the end of their innings. The tourists had progressed unsteadily to 153 for seven when Cairns came in. After losing Martin Crowe, he soon settled in to assault Sri Lanka's bowling, sharing an unbroken partnership of 47 with Boock, in 22 minutes, and taking 26 (three 6s, two 4s) from the last over of New Zealand's innings, bowled by John. Sri Lanka replied weakly. Wettimuny persevered, but he was offered little support.

Man of the Match: B. L. Cairns.
