Second Prudential Trophy Match

†ENGLAND v INDIA 1982

At The Oval, June 4. England won by 114 runs to win the Prudential Trophy. They were handed the initiative when India put them in on a lovely morning and a good pitch. Their 276 for nine was based on a sparkling third-wicket partnership of 159 in 27 overs, a Prudential Trophy record, between Lamb and Gower, and only the slowness of the outfield prevented England from passing 300. Bowling as effectively as they had batted, England took India's first five wickets for only 42 runs, but in poor light after tea, with storm-clouds threatening, Kapil Dev, Madan Lal and Shastri saved India from a heavier defeat.

Lamb was Man of the Match. The attendance was 10,208, the takings £62,063.50.
