At Manchester, May 24, 25. England won by 132 runs, a result which reflected the overall lack of experience of Pakistan in limited-overs cricket. While Sarfraz, with his Northamptonshire background, bowled eleven overs for 13 runs, his colleagues of any pace, Sikander Bakht and Mudassar Nazar, were collared in turn, Sikander conceding 56 runs and Mudassar 52 in their maximum quota of overs. Radley and Gower, in a partnership of 71 in thirteen overs, were their main tormentors and then Botham threw his bat for 31 in eight overs. It all made for a useful total on a pitch providing some movement for the ball all day. This was emphasised when Willis hit Sadiq's leg stump and Old removed Haroon's off during the threequarters of an hour's play before the light intervened. Willis continued the good work by accounting for Miandad, Mohsin, and Raja on the Thursday. Pakistan were rolled over for 85, having been 31 for seven at one time. Willis finished with four for 13 and the £200 cheque as the Man of the Match. From England's point of view, the one disappointment was a finger injury sustained by Boycott while fielding. It was to keep him out of the second Prudential Trophy game and the three-match Test series which followed.
