New Zealand v Sri Lanka, 2015-16

At Nelson, December 31, 2015. Sri Lanka won by eight wickets. Toss: New Zealand.
Sri Lanka finally found some semblance of form, and rescued the tour from disaster with a fine batting display. Williamson returned for New Zealand after missing the previous two matches with a knee niggle, and took over as captain from McCullum, who had aggravated a back injury trying to prevent a boundary in the previous game. He top-scored with 59, but Saxton Oval had been a batsmen's paradise during the World Cup, and New Zealand's total - with Chameera outstanding and Vandersay applying the brakes after his nightmare debut - looked underwhelming. Still, the verve with which Sri Lanka took on the challenge was refreshing after their recent collapses. Gunathilleke started with four sixes in his 65 from 45 balls, putting on 98 with Dilshan, who kept the rate under control with a run-a-ball 91. He added 111 with Thirimanne, who calmly collected the rest with Chandimal. New Zealand missed Henry, strangely sent back to domestic cricket.
Man of the Match: M. D. Gunathilleke.
