If Boxing Day had been a stroll in the park for New Zealand, this was almost a sleepwalk. Henry again haunted the top order, before Guptill monstered the bowling. Sri Lanka folded once more after choosing to bat, as Henry collected another four-for, and McClenaghan took three. This time there was no partial recovery: Sri Lanka's top score was 19, by Kulasekara from No. 8. And the match was over even more quickly: Guptill scorched to his half-century in 17 balls, one short of the world record, clouting eight sixes - and nine fours - in his unbeaten 93 from 30; his strike-rate of 310 had been bettered only by A. B. de Villiers (338, in his 149 from 44 against West Indies at Johannesburg in 2014-15) in an innings of 25 balls or more. Jeffrey Vandersay, Sri Lanka's debutant leg-spinner, had a cruel introduction, conceding 34 from his two overs as New Zealand careered to victory in 40 minutes to complete what Sri Lanka's coach Jerome Jayaratne called "a really humiliating day". The caterers were left to rustle up an early lunch, as the entire match - New Zealand's 12th successive win at home - lasted only 36 overs.
