Few gave Bangladesh much chance when India arrived for a flying visit, but they ended up taking the one-day series, their first bilateral victory over them in four attempts. This trip was firmed up only after Bangladesh voted in favour of the Indian-led reorganisation of the ICC in 2014. India's jam-packed schedule meant it had to take place in June, monsoon time in Bangladesh - and the weather ruined the one-off Test, the first between the sides for more than five years (though India still had not hosted Bangladesh).

But rain mostly stayed away during the 50-over games, in which Bangladesh outperformed a jaded Indian side. Abandoning their usual reliance on spin at home, they unleashed Rubel Hossain and Taskin Ahmed - two slippery bowlers who could hurry the batsmen - and introduced the feisty 19-year-old left-arm cutter Mustafizur Rahman. He started with two five-fors, and ended up with 13 wickets, a world record for a three-match one-day series. The batsmen also performed consistently, with relative newcomers Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman and Liton Das doing well.

Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan shared a huge opening stand in the Test, but just about the only plus point for India in the one-dayers was M. S. Dhoni's decision to promote himself after the opening game to No. 4, where he made 47 and 69, taking his average in that position to 68. But Dhoni was involved in an ugly incident in the first match, when he shoulder-charged Mustafizur, who had got in his way as he tried a quick single. Both were fined.
