Pakistan have often swayed between crushing disappointments and staggering highs, but this routine win over a dogged UAE was neither. Invited to bat, they followed a sensible script against some handy bowling - accumulating early, then accelerating, before exploding at the death. Set 340, the UAE aimed merely to bat for 50 overs, which they did. After Pakistan opener Nasir Jamshed had failed again, Ahmed Shehzad and Haris Sohail put on 160 before falling in swift succession. Sohaib Maqsood and Misbah-ul-Haq took the reins and quickened the scoring - Misbah's fifty came from 39 deliveries - before Shahid Afridi crashed 21 off seven. Wahab Riaz faced just one ball, and clubbed it over McLean Park's short midwicket boundary. When the UAE slipped to 25 for three in ten overs, the game looked set for a premature end, but the middle order proved harder to displace. Two of their Pakistan-born players, Khurram Khan and Shaiman Anwar, batted resourcefully to add 83 in 19 overs. Shaiman - nicknamed "Sir Viv" by his team-mates - found himself the tournament's leading scorer with 270, two ahead of Kumar Sangakkara.
