Heavy rain on the day before the match left areas surrounding the square and the bowlers'
landing area extremely damp, and the umpires, Aleem Dar and Simon Taufel, abandoned the match in mid-afternoon. That meant Sri Lanka's place in the final alongside Pakistan was confirmed.
