Surrey's centenary was celebrated, EW Swanton wrote one of the Almanack's most famous features - "Cricket Under The Japs" - and the joy of the Victory Tests and the Dominions matches were given centre stage. Details of Lancashire's £100,000 appeal for a new pavilion were announced (but 60-odd years later the old pavilion was still there).
