DKL was the greatest of the great.
Great story Stuart! Poignant. Thanks for sharing.
My best memories of Lillee are his spell at Melbourne at the end of the 1st day against West Indies in 1981-82 when he captured 3 wickets including the scalp of Viv Richards.Lillee was the ultimate epitome of the agression and hostility in fast bowling that day.I also always recollect his great bowling effort in the 1977 Centenary test.Statistically Richard Hadlee or Glen Mcgrath were better but both lacked the variations or flamboyance of Lillee.Malcolm Marshall or Ray Lindwall were more innovative it talented but still Lillee could be a greater thorn in the flesh for the great batsmen. His duels with Viv Richards are embedded in my memory for ever.
Dennis Lillee in 1978-79 in Kerry Packer world series cricket was arguably better than any fast bowler ever.He would be my choice in the 1st all-time world xi.
Dennis Lillee was one of the most fierce battlers to ever step on a cricket field. No fast bowler or possibly even cricketer displayed the determination Lillee displayed to comeback after a fatal back injury. The sight of Dennis Lillee coming in to bowl was agression at it's ultimate zenith in the game of cricket, like an army batallion launching an assault.
Lillee was arguably the most complete pace bowler ever posessing every ingredient be it pace, accuracy, control agression, versatality and above all temperament. No paceman had a better leg-cutter.Ray Lindwall or MlacomMarshall ay have had more talent but could not surpass Lillee's determination who symbolized that quality more than any fast bowler ever.Adding Packer cricket and games against Rest of the World Lillee would have had 460 scalps in 91 tests.Lillee championed the cause on slow wickets at Melbourne ,Adelaide and the Oval.
My best memories are his spell against West Indies at Melbourne in 1981-82.
