Mcgrath was certainly better than Lille, Wane and Hadlee as far as pitches in Indi, Pak and SL are concerned
@harshthakor -----------------------
McGrath averaged 21.30 in India during hsi test career, 312 in Pakistan and 29.20 in SL. Certainly his record in India is superior to marshall's (24.61) Hadlee's (22.22 - SirRH also has an average of 44.70 with a terrible economy rate of 4.45 in pakistan) and Akram's (27.70). Lillee never played in India, but his average in pakistan was 101.00
Raw averages over a long career tell a story. McGrath was a great champion. His perennial 5-0 Ashes or series whitewash predictions were testament to his cheeky, positive nature and the fact that they riled the opposition seemed to leave him completely unmoved.
Great skill, great commitment, great team spirit and a great guy. A lot of 'greats' - seems appropriate.
Great Bowler! Outstanding Disciplined Bowling! Amazing Consistency! Fine Adaptability! Significant contribution to Teams' cause!
Greatest bowler when it comes to line n length
Mcgrath lacked the agression and variations of Dennis Lillee or Wasim Akram but compensated it with his phenomenal consistency of length.He may not have created a blitzkreig like Wasim Akram or Curtly Ambrose or made explosve bursts but was neverthless as lethal in certain conditions.
Possibly on flat pitches with their superior overall craft,Malcolm Marshal and Wasim Akram or even Dennis Lillee may have performed better than Mcgrath.On sub-continent,docile tracks the guile of Marshall and Wasim would have superseded Glen Mcgrath.
In terms of figurse Glen Mcgrath is arguably the best of all paceman with Sir Richard Hadlee but I still feel that if you analyse opposition and conditions Lillee and Marshall would edge him.
The ultimate epitome of consistency amongst fast bowlers.Although fast-medium he posessed more control than any pace bowler ever and was the most lethal of all bowlers outside the corridor.Statistically he was the all-time champin with 563 scalps at 21.63 but it was not mere figures that told the story.At his bset he was devastating like at Lords in 1997 and 2005 when his nagging length and bounce was virtually unplayable.He resembled a passenger train when bowling who could bowl six deliveries of the same kind in a single over.A batsmen was perplexed whether to play or leave a ball by Mcgrath on our outside the offstump.Although he did not have the variations of Wasim Akram or the pace of Shoaib Akhtar he superby blended all the components in balanced proportion which constituted the perfect pace bowler.He was master in analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of oppoonents with the skill of a computerized machine.
