Subhash Gupte was arguably the best leg spinner of all-time from a technical point of view who blended his guile with flight and turn to perfection.turn.Figures simply did not do him justice. He combined the skill of an engineer with the imagination of a magician and the consistency of an engine.Even Shane Warne inspite of being lethal did not posess Gupte's trajectory or versatility.Warne may have been a great spinner but did not equal Gupte's mastery of flight.Infact Sir Gary Sobers rated Gupte as the best spinner he ever faced or saw, even ahead of Shane Warne. On even unhelpful surfaces he could come out on top.He foxed great batsmen like Everton Weekes,Neil Harvey and Rohan Kanhai. He may well have been the best bowler had he played in the modern era.A strong candidate for an all-time xi.
These precious golden spinners should open academies and train our future spin bowlers. Why were they not used? Surely the spin supply line is going to breakdown?
