Good call wimblepool! C'mon Switchhit! Could you please upload to itunes so I can listen on my way home from work!
To be fair to the ECB, it's the Irish players themselves who would currently prefer to play for England. No one holds a gun to their head, they declared to play for the team that gave them the best opportunity to compete at the top level of the game. Ireland has no test status and certainly could not offer these guys the chance to play in the top 2 or 3 ranked side in cricket on a consistent basis. So it's a combination of the Irish, English and world cricketing bodies that need to make some changes, if changes need to be made.
As for "England" I'd say yes, they should be at least a little bit embarrassed, but the team has been full of foreign born players for quite some time now, I think they're over it. They've needed every scrap of talent available from multiple nations to get where they are today, I just hope for their sake they don't pay for it too harshly when this current crop of imports retire or move on.
We all know it's not an English side but a UK side. Have you told a Scot he's English & get away?
Have you scrapped the audio version of Switch Hit (nothing on iTunes)? Would be a shame if you have as watching video can be awkward when driving, cycling or even walking and this is the only podcast I know with informed and independent opinions on a wide range of cricket.
The point is that surely England fans would rather see young England players being selected than Irish players? England have ample players to call upon or select. However Ireland do not..... that is the point, England hare hindering the development of Irish Cricket. Yes its a problem that the ICC are not granting Ireland test cricket, with Morgan and Rankin Ireland would have most definitely beaten England. George Dobells point saying that its not the ECBs fault yeah of course it is they select these players and allow them to play and encourage them to play. The only reason they are moving across is because the EBC allow them and for saying Rankin playing for England more accepted because he is Northern Irish is ridiculous. The fact is with Morgan and Rankin Ireland would be a very dangerous ODI team and very capable to compete in test cricket.
How can you take the game seriously and how can the game develop when England simply get the best pick of Irish players? A farce.
