@nampally - agree with you on the bowling. Sandeep sharma is a player that needs to be tested out at a higher level. He did so well at U19 and even in domestic games. Mohit is good because he holds the ball close to his neck when delivering and although it looks strange it has worked for him. Pujara will blossom for India once given a chance at ODI (there is no doubt) Rayudu and Rahane are other options and have been given a chance on Zim/SA tours.

I don't know why Ishant Sharma keeps long hair like a woman's in the terrible heat and also it blocks his vision while bowling. If I were a selecto or a captain, I wouldn't select him unless he cuts his hair. Dhoni has never been a good captain and it is due to the credit of other cricketers that India won and has been winning despite his poor captaincy.

Jitesh on July 15, 2013, 13:09 GMT

People tend to forget that Sanga was dropped on 22 and Thirimanne on 2, India should have been chasing 108 and not 201...one was obviously by the worst fielder in the Indian side, Ashwin. But the other was by Raina. Had he taken the chance, and that too of the Great Sanga, off his own bowling, Dhoni's decision to bowl him would become a masterstroke!

Ashok on July 15, 2013, 12:50 GMT

Indian team is good but it still is missing some really good players who are available but not included. To start with Ishant Sharma & Yadev need to be told to improve their length & direction or replaced with alternate talent. Playing these 2 expensive bowlers is hurting India in ODI's. Alternate seamers are Mohit Sharma, Sandeep Sharma, Kaul & P.Kumar. They are all economical but @ 130 KPH zone not in 140 KPH. A quick leg spinner like Karan Sharma& Rasool are other valuable spinners. In batting Pujara has been by passed repeatedly under the excuse of him being a Test batsmen & not suited to ODI's. His ODI record proves otherwise. A S/R of 60 is good average for ODI's & Pujara is in that range while he scored his double century or a Test century. India needs a sheet anchor in batting with correct technique in the weak middle order. Pujara answers that need totally. Samson, Zol & Chand are other young batting talent. Luckily in the SA & Zimbabwe squads these guys finally get a break.

@mark2011, I still don't understand that if 240 would have given match to SL then why was SL all out for 201? Even Angelo Mathews in Post Match ceremony said that "If we had batted for 50 overs we would have scored 240-250 and that would have been enough to win".

Premendra on July 13, 2013, 14:21 GMT

During the match when Sri Lanka were two down and feeling pressure and Dhoni let the pressure released by giving ball to Kohli and Raina I was also having the same feeling as Akash Chopra had, that Dhoni did a mistake here. But later i realize that he wanted more options in death overs after all it a 50 over game. I know some would say Dhoni was lucky. My answer is Luck plays an important role in Cricket as the game stats with a TOSS its a matter of luck, no one can deny that. Every captain has different plans and strategies and I found Dhoni is different from all others. I dont think he is successful just by luck. Credit must be given to him and the team. We must understand that most of the pundits dont have any experience but they say anything about anybody.

mark on July 13, 2013, 13:18 GMT

too much boasting...its only 2 bowls remained in the end.. so there's nothing much great of Indi winning this, its pure poor batting by SL players.. 240 wud hav easily given tha matvh to SL.. but still it was there, but luck of MSD favoured as its been for some time now...

Sarma on July 13, 2013, 12:39 GMT

There is a need for India to strengthen its ODI bowling. Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Vinay Kumar are getting more chances than they deserve and this is bringing down India's bowling strength. The best ODI bowling team of India would be: Rahul Sharma; B Kumar; Ashwin; Jadeja; IK Pathan. Reserves should be Zaheer Khan and Praveen Kumar.

Batting should be from: Dhawan, Kohli, Tiwary, Dhoni, Gambhir and Raina. RG Sharma and Yuvraj Singh should be in the reserves.

RAJARAMAN on July 13, 2013, 7:56 GMT

Aarkay Chandru ... very uncharitable comment on Ashwin ... man he was the one who bailed India out of Aus test series not so in distant past ... he was the one who bowled well to restore both control and wickets in CT final ... he is such a good bowler that batsmen worldwide want to see him off by taking very minimal risks ... just because Herath bowled well in this match does not make Ashwin a lesser bowler ...

Naresh on July 13, 2013, 7:53 GMT

India needs to find a good left armer for Khans spot or could he make a comeback!!! To be a complete team. Karthik shopuld be replaced by Rayudu or Pujara.
