I feel after 2 daysd of action @ the MCG....Australia are definetely the best side on view, but Pakistan definetely have much to prove, ajmal, kaneria, aamer, asif will definetely be agood combination....do feel that they are lacking an all rounder...which at times seems must when the subcontinental teams are playing abroad....& they do feel that 2 spinners are the way to go...For Australia the whole summer has been stupendous....all the batsmen are in fine fettle...the only drawback it seems is that there bowling lacks a swinger like hilfenhaus.....siddle,bollinger,johnson,hilfy....watson would b a good attack...but whos in the reserves....

Brian on December 26, 2009, 4:31 GMT

i think AUS will win 2-0 there will be a draw at some point. alot has bin said (in regards to paks bowling attk) in favour for pakistan, but after 2 sessions they are yet to take a wicket, looks like it will be difficult for them to take 20 wickets in a match

Cricinfouser on December 25, 2009, 12:21 GMT

I Think Pakistan will Win this series because of variety in their bowling attack . Pakistan has the best bowling attack with Mohammad Amer , Mohammad Asif , Umar Gul , Danish Kaneria and Saeed Ajmal .

Andrew on December 25, 2009, 10:36 GMT

Pakistan will be competiive, and it won't be a clear cut win to Australia (it'll be a win nonetheless). The good thing is that the Aussies are playong against a decent bunch of human beings - instead of those serial pigs, INDIA.

I'm just wondering what the scumbag cricket journalists such as Sambit Bal and Peter Roebuck are going to write about if Australia win and there are no incidents in the series.

Guru on December 25, 2009, 10:13 GMT

This is going to be a tough series considering the fact that Pak has greater depth in bowling department. If Pak batsmen backs up the bowlers then Ausssies will be in real trouble, also Ponting's fitness will mean a lot to the Oz. But Aussies seem to hold a definite edge over the Pak simply due to their fielding. If Clarke and Hussey perform well, Aus can certainly hope for a better run. Also if Johnson finds his form going there will be a good three pronged attack that can rattle the brittle Pak batting lineup. Though Pak won a test in NZ, they were saved by weather Gods from series defeat and perhaps the bowling of Pakistan too looked more than handy as New Zealand batted very poorly throughout. Despite injury concerns Aussies are still very tough to beat at home. If Hauritz can stand up and start delivering goods the way team expects from him, then Aussies will certainly remain a force. Aussies will start as favorites to win the series 2-1

what my opinion about this match is that Pakistan always start slow and play some poor cricket from the start of the series and after that they recover and perform well. But you never know about Pakistan unpredictability. In bowling I am satisfied with their performance, only worry is opening both openers need to attack Australia bowlers, get a good start and that will make middle order perform much better. So good opening partnership will be the key to Pakistan success.

Him on December 25, 2009, 8:36 GMT

I too expect Australia to win this series...but I really think Pakistan can be competitive. If only their batsmen show decent temperament and patience, I think Pakistan can challenge Australia due to their very talented bowling. But I have to confess, it is quite possible that the Pakistani batting lineup might again seriously underperform and make this a one-sided series. (As for Ponting, he should be alright...noone with Roach's pace in this series. But I am looking forward to his contest with the AAA attack (Asif, Aamer & Ajmal)! Those 3 most definitely have the potential to trouble him and the other Aussies!

James on December 25, 2009, 5:30 GMT

The way these two teams are playing, I would put my money on Pakistan. Aamer has pace and Umer Gul is threatening, and the spinners can tighen things up, but the guy almost impossible to face is Asif and he is coming back to his best after all the problems in the past couple of years. And if the Aussies expect Ponting to be the mainstay, they are going to have problems- he can't face either raw pace or genuine offspin. Gul and Aamer and Ajmal are going to upset him. Batting wise too, with the emergence of Umer Akmal, and some reassurance from the Openers, Pakistan are almost comparable to Australia- and because Pakistan believe in going into games with five genuine good bowlers, they have the chance of winning tests.

Terry on December 25, 2009, 5:27 GMT

I believe Australia will win 3-0. Ponting is good against pace bowling, but is returning for an injury, so I think he maybe concerned about bouncers for the next match. I suspect he will wear an arm guard. I'm hopeful that after 2012 FTP will be replaced with test world cup played over 4 years in 3 stages being group stage (4 teams of 5) year 1, super eights (1 group of 8) years 2 & 3 and finals (semis & grand final) year 4. It would allow for icon series in 4th year for teams not reaching semis & grand final, whilst allowing all associate & affilate teams compete for group stage (with chance of super eights spot if compete well).

P Subramani on December 25, 2009, 4:32 GMT

Pakistan have much the better bowling attack than Australia not so much in regard to raw pace but when it comes to swing and spin bowling. But Australia have much the better batting and fielding. And that is why I will put my money on Australia to win the series. It has been suggested somewhere that Ponting is suspect against short pitched bowling. That is quite ridiculous because in all these years of watching him I have rarely seen a more courageous batsman in international cricket. Sadly, he is not getting younger and it is possible that his reflexes are not what they used to be. That explains why he may have been troubled by Kemar Roach. I am sure Ponting will do well against Pakistan as he has done in the past. I think Australia will win more convincingly than they did against West Indies.,
