India v Sri Lanka 2006-07

ESPNcricinfo staff

India and Sri Lanka wrapped up their World Cup preparations with a short series - shortened even more when the first match was rained off. India, exhibiting fine team spirit, came from behind to win, their batting going well in the last two games after misfiring in the second. Sri Lanka rested Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas ahead of the World Cup, setting up what amounted to a bowl-off for two Cup places between the leg-spinners Malinga Bandara and Upul Chandana, and mediumpacers Nuwan Kulasekara and Nuwan Zoysa: Bandara and Kulasekara impressed the judges the most.

Tight bowling - and a century from Kumar Sangakkara - earned Sri Lanka an against-the-odds victory in the second match at Rajkot, but India's batting clicked into gear after that stumble, and made light of testing targets in the last two games. Sourav Ganguly rubber-stamped his selection for another World Cup with three good innings, and there were signs of a return to form for the out-of-sorts Virender Sehwag.
