The Unitech Cup in Sri Lanka, 2006 (SL/I/SA)

ESPNcricinfo staff

If ever a tournament was cursed, this was it. First, South Africa pulled out of the planned three-way competition and flew home after a bomb killed seven people in Colombo. Then the rain - which had already washed out the opening two matches - allowed only 22 balls' play in the third game, and flooded out the fourth entirely. With no sign of a break in the weather, the Sri Lankan board gave up. The original seven-match competition had already been slimmed down, after South Africa's withdrawal, into a threematch series against India, but this too was abandoned, with unconfirmed plans to restage it later. The board also threatened to sue their South African counterparts for compensation; what they intended to do about the weather was not specified.
