The Rajkumar of Vizianagram

VIZIANAGRAM, THE RAJKUMAR OF, SIR GAJAPATAIRAJ VIJAYA AMANDA, who died in Benares, Northern India, on December 2, aged 59, captained the Indian team in England in 1936. He showed his strength of character before the first Test match by sending home as a disciplinary measure India's most successful all-rounder, L. Amarnath, who had scored more runs than anyone and hit two centuries in the game against Essex at Brentwood. In three matches against England, "Vizzy", as he was known in the cricket world, scored only 33 runs, his highest innings being 19 not out at Lord's. On the whole tour, however, his aggregate reached 600, including 60 from the University bowling at Oxford, average 16.21. Three times he was elected President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He was a member of the Indian Legislative Assembly.
