The counties were pleading poverty and that familiar cry of declining public interest filled the air, but Wisden nonetheless saw fit to sing the praises of one of the more interesting summers of recent years. Bad weather continued to vex the county programme, with the result that Yorkshire proposed the awarding of points to sides leading on first innings. Wisden was suspicious of such a plan, fearing it would lead to negative play on the occasions when the weather was good. There was change at Yorkshire as well, as Lord Hawke stood down as captain "after a long and brilliant chapter". Some things never change, however. In the autumn of 1910 "there was a grave fear that Derbyshire as a first-class county club would cease to exist".
