The Five Cricketers of the Year resurfaced - albeit limited to bowlers - but they were taken from the public schools in the absence of any first-class matches in England. One of the five - Cranleigh's Harry Calder - was unaware that he had been included until shortly before his death in 1994 (he was, at the time, the oldest surviving Cricketer of the Year). The introduction of eight-ball overs in Australia resulted in a "strong objection" from the editor, who said it would produce nothing but harm and could lead to the demise of fast bowling. The price of the Almanack rose for the second time in four years from 1/6, to two shillings.
