An upbeat edition - the war in Europe was days away from its bloody conclusion when the Almanack hit the bookstands - looked ahead to the resumption of cricket, but warned that Tests shouldn't be rushed into, citing the "disastrous" 1920-21 series (which Australia won 5-0) as an example of why not. Thoughts turned to the Championship, and the need for people to rejoin counties to help alleviate the financial crisis they faced. At Lord's, 10,653 watched an England XI beat West Indies by 166 runs, while 16,000 witnessed England beat Australia by 33 runs. Both were one-day matches, but not of limited overs.
