Wisden

1917

Perhaps the most solemn edition of the Almanack with hundreds of names listed under a special "Deaths in the War" section (106 pages with brevity the order of the day) almost entirely responsible for an increase in the size of the book from 299 to 351 pages. Alongside the mass of young soldiers filling the deaths pages, there was also the passing of Dr Alfred Grace, the least known and last of the Grace brothers.
