Following their brilliantly successful tour in England, the Australian team went home by way of the Cape and played six matches in South Africa. Their visit aroused great interest and they were received with enthusiasm by the South African players. They did themselves ample credit, winning three matches and leaving the other three unfinished. Of their three matches with the full strength of South Africa, the first was left drawn and they won the other two. Hugh Trumble did not stay for the whole of the trip, returning home by an earlier boat than his colleagues.
