Australia, India and South Africa visited New Zealand in February for a quadrangular one-day tournament to mark the centenary of the establishment of the New Zealand Cricket Council in Christchurch on December 27, 1894. Australia who showed themselves good neighbours in coming during a busy season of three Test series and four limited-overs competitions, easily beat New Zealand in the final at Auckland. For the home country, the matches came in an overpacked season, after their tour of South Africa and between their unsuccessful clashes with West Indies and Sri Lanka. The centenary programme also included a one-off Test against South Africa; that was lost too.
