Andrew Alderson
This two-match series was arranged to tune up both teams for the World Cup. New Zealand's victory was their fourth in five one-day series, while Pakistan lost their fourth in a row since reaching the final of the Asia Cup in March 2014; they were even beaten in two practice games. The tour had an unusual start when a feverish Haris Sohail was unnerved by what he said was a supernatural presence shaking his bed at a Christ church hotel. During the first one-day international, at Wellington, the ground announcer teased him by blasting the Ghost busters theme from the speakers on his entry and dismissal.New Zealand had to dispel demons of their own. At 7ft 1in, Mohammad Irfan revelled in the extra bounce he could generate outside the United ArabEmirates, while Shahid Afridi created the odd unplayable delivery. Even so,the series ended with at least one half-century for all of New Zealand's top five except captain Brendon McCullum, and wickets for all their bowlers. In contrast, Pakistan's middle order failed and, Irfan aside, their pace bowling looked more buffet than a` la carte.
