2009 - Hayden officially announces his retirement from representative cricket, finishing his Test career with 8625 runs at an average of 50.73. Is hailed by teammates Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer as being the greatest ever opener from Australia.
2007-08 - Hayden once again has a memorable summer against India, aggregating over 400 runs with three centuries in the four Test-series, to bring his career total to thirty centuries.
2005 - Hayden suffers a considerable slump in form towards the end of 2004, and goes sixteen consecutive Tests without scoring a century. But a grinding 138 from 303 balls in the fifth Ashes Test arguably saves his career.
2003 - Finishes a third consecutive year with more than 1000 runs - 1312 from 12 innings, averaging 77.17 with five centuries.
2002 - Hayden scores four centuries in successive Tests against South Africa, at Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Johannesburg. Almost makes it five in five, but is dismissed for 96 in Cape Town.
2001- The tour to India turns out to be a turning point in Hayden's career. He scores 549 runs with two centuries, an Australian record for a three-Test series, averaging 109.80.
1999 - A prolific batsman for the Queensland first-class cricket team, plenty of runs and persistence resulted in the resurrection of his international career for the 1999-2000 tour of New Zealand.
1997- Hayden scores his maiden century (125 against the West Indies in Adelaide), but averages only 21.7 for the series with two ducks. Is dropped from the team consequently, and is out of favour for the next few years.
1994 - Hayden makes his Test debut for Australia in 1994 against South Africa in Johannesburg, scoring 15 and 5.
