@ Mike_Tyson thanks for your views and point well made. VVS actually came to the fore only after his 281. By that time sachin had already played maybe 80 Test Matches and injuries had started to make a regular appearance for him making him change his game and his approach. The pressure factor itself can separate sachin from any other batsman in world history.
Just loved her the way she described her admiration for Sachin!! Did not care Cricinfo's top 50 innings as they included Sanath's dead rubber triple, Lara's both the innings, but none of SRT, Pointing, Kallis or Sanga's innings. I can recall at least 4-5 innings of each one of them better than many of the top50. Also, how could you leave Wasim-Waqar as they took all their wickets in sub-continent pitches? Anyway off topic here and thanks Suzie for the wonderful interview! :)
@thatscricket- Finally someone that sees sense!! It absolutely is a myth that Lara won matches single handed. Apart from the innings you mention, there are none! He had a great bowling attack and he also had fine batsmen playing alongside him. People say Sachin played with 4-5 great batsman, he actually only played with one great batsman, Dravid. Ganguly, Sehwag, VVS were all good/very good but not great. In all the years Sachin and Lara played, the West Indies were ranked higher in tests for the majority of the time, that should tell you who the better test team was. Windies only really went downhill after Walsh and Ambrose left. I can go on but will wait for the Lara fanboys to show up.
@Harshthakor, can you please give me examples where Brian Lara has single handedly won Test matches for WI apart from the 153* vs Aus. I am tired of reading this (almost an urban legend of sorts in cricket) about Brian Lara winning matches (or even Viv Richards). Also people often overlook a key aspect that for a better part of his career Lara at least had Amrose and Walsh who took wickets in almost any conditions and so a few of his innings didn't go waste. Test matches cannot be won without taking 20 wickets a fact also reiterated quite recently by Virat Kohli and thus his strategy of using 5 bowlers.
No batsmen ever was arguably as complete as Sachin Tendulkar who posessed every component of the perfect batsmen. He blended the technical skill of a surgeon with the power of a boxer the temperament of a naval commander and the creativity of a poet. His batting strokes took cricketing perfection to a zenith rarely reached.Apart from Barry Richards no batsmen could pulverize pace attacks with such technical perfection. He was equally at home on the turning sub-continents tracks, the bouncy Australian wickets and the seaming English pitches.Above all he played at his best in South Africa where the conditions are most difficult for batsmen executing 3 of the finest centuries ever seen .No sportsman let alone cricketer remained at the top for as prolonged a tenure as Sachin and no cricketer faced more pressure.Statistically the best batsmen of all time but not as great a match-winner as Brian Lara or Viv Richards and not outstanding in a 4th innings or in hitting final nails in the coffin
