Sorry, Alarky, but you're wrong....from your birth to your first birthday will be your first year of life, from your first birthday to your second birthday will be your second year...ie, the year before your xth birthday will be your xth year.
Andy, one correction: You and Rajesh are 'not into' your 40th years! You have to 'get to' your 40th year, before you can 'get into' it. You are instead into your 39th year and must 'get out' of it before getting into your 40th year. In fact, based on the records, Sachin Tendulkar is 'into' his 40th year and does not want to get out of it, except if as usual, he's allowed to do it in the reverse. But, this too is possible, when talking about Tendulkar and Indian officials. I would not be surprised to hear that the Indian Parliament has a passed a Bill to say that Sachin Tendulkar is allowed to 'count his age backwards', so that he can still play cricket for India!
recalled an old joke...
"My friend and I were celebrating our 40th birthday the same year. As a gag gift, I gave her a CD by the band UB40. For my birthday, she retaliated with a CD as well. The group? U2."
Wishing you a happy 40th guys. Here is a request from another 40 year old: Can you please select an Indian Test team for the coming WI series strictly based on stats from the past 24 months (before the 'selectors' do)? In fact, do it for every series, for every country, make it an automatic feature on the cricinfo site every series. Consider all active cricket players who have played Tests and First class cricket in the country in the past 24 months (exclude the currently injured/unavailable players). Equate the Test batting/bowling averages to First class batting/bowling averages by adding a correction coefficient say 5 runs (you figure out what it is based on existing stats). It will be fun to select a team strictly based on stats, try it. I want to see, to what extent it resembles the team selected by the 'selectors'.
